Heavy Equipment Operator

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with company operating safety policies and procedures

  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment

  • Basic rigging utilizing forklifts, skid-steers, and excavators, knowledge of approved lift points and best rigging practices

  • Move materials and equipment using truck and trailer, capability to drive and maneuver truck and trailer

  • Be mindful of site safety, raise awareness to management and propose solutions or hazard mitigation

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • 2+ years of experience with heavy equipment operations

  • 3+ years in construction/agriculture

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Class A CDL (+$2.00/hr.)

  • Experience installing subsurface drain lines

  • Experience operating excavator, tile trencher, and/or tile plow

  • Experience in excavation, backfill, and grade preparation

  • Experience in rigging

  • Strong working knowledge of lifting and equipment operation signals

  • Knowledge of safe work practices OSHA 29 CFR 1926

  • Understand the larger project/site goals and be proactive in addressing future blockers to improve overall efficiency or raise concerns to management

Additional Requirements

  • Physical effort including standing, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 45 lbs. unassisted

  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements most of the work day

  • Ability to work all required shift hours, including overtime and weekends when needed

  • Willing to travel as needed, up to 5% travel
